Carbon Reduction CommitmentWhat is the Carbon Reduction Commitment? This is a Government backed scheme that starts in April 2010 to reduce the carbon footprint of the UK. 'The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is an innovative climate change and energy saving scheme for the UK. It will encourage improvements in energy efficiency which can save organisations money. The scheme has been designed to generate a shift in awareness in large organisations especially at senior level, and to drive changes in behaviour and infrastructure. The scheme is also a central part of the UK’s strategy for controlling our carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. It will tackle CO2 emissions not already covered by Climate Change Agreements and the EU Emissions Trading System. This will help reduce the country’s carbon footprint to deliver the ambitious emissions reduction targets set in the Government’s Climate Change Act.' - Quoted from the DEFRA website March 2009.Am I Affected - Please check here to see if this scheme affects your business. Complete guidance on how to prepare for the scheme and what actions you will have to take during the scheme can be found in the CRC User Guide. This document provides a step by step guide to all aspects of the scheme. It explains what the scheme is, who it applies to and how it will work. The guide is based on the current draft legislation which is subject to revision following the current consultation. Carbon Reduction Commitment User Guide, download
